My name is Jesse Esparza and I just wanted to drop you a line and tell
you how much I admire your drumming. I remember watching "Extra" or one of those shows and they were doing a Prince special during the
Batman era and they showed a clip of Dr Mambo's Combo and I turned to my friend and said "Prince needs a drummer like THAT!". Fast forward to the SNL Electric Chair performance and I called that same friend and told him "Look at the drummer!!! It's HIM!!!!" I've been a fan ever since. So much so that I even took up playing the drums. I was blessed to see you play in the NPG 5 times but my absolute favorites were the Glam Slam West aftershow on the Act 1 tour and the Love Experience show in July of 94 in MPLS. My bones felt like they were loose for months after these shows from your rumble. At the Glam Slam showPrince would face you moving back and forth and then he'd punch to his left and you'd do this Vegas like hold and then he'd stand up and you'd stop and the band never missed a beat. He did this a few times and then threw his water bottle in the air and as it hit the ground the band STOPPED. I still get chills thinking about it LOL. I also wanted to thank you for your kindness. I had the pleasure of meeting you in 1991 at Perkin's at 3 a.m. LOL It was during the first
Controversy Convention and the group of fans had just been yelled at
for some idiots kicking the dumpster glam at Paisley Park. They basically told us to leave you all alone because if we didn't Prince wouldn't play for us that week. Well we walk into Perkins and there you sit, we all looked at each other like we were being tested LOL You spoke to me first and said "Hey are you all with the Convention." I said yes and you proceeded to chat with us and you were so damn cool to us. We seen you a few more times during the week and you'd always come up and talk to us. We even all walked out a few times together and talked in the parking lot. I always wanted to thank you for being so cool with us. Not all of us were fanatical and you treated us like we treated you, with respect. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I wish you the best in Soul Asylum and come to Denver if you can!!
