i spent the most time talking
to andy newmark, though.. i got his
number from joe testa, the organizer of groove all stars and artist
relations manager for yamaha drums, years ago... but, i was so
terrified by "fresh" by sly and the family stone as a young
man, that
calling him seemed too scary a thing to do..it turns out, he was totally
cool.. we had alot in common, when it came to perspectives on drumming
and time.. time, in particular..we just have alot of similar ideas about
what "it" is, and what makes"it" happen.. he's a
very articulate cat... well spoken, and really old school.. i loved
hanging out with him... we may interview each other for a modern drummer
article, some time in the near future.. seeing as we both have worked
for two of the funkiest of all time..
it turns out, that same night, i met other favorites of mine who seemed
to have crashed the event.. chris dave, whom i already know and fear..
dave mattacks, gerald heywood, and a few others i should or should not
mention.. LOL
but, the mind scrambler of the evening was greg errico walking up on
me in the back hallway..
